Before I became a VR artist, I started out as an oil painter, focusing on portraits. Over the years, this evolved as I became more interested in the concepts behind the process of making.
The iPad has really improved my life. Now I work in bed, in libraries, in cafes. I choose a place to work, I move around, I don't just sit in front of my computer.
Almost always indoors, TV and books became my main forms of escapism - and drawing! I was raised in a very tropical city surrounded by hills and palm trees, but sadly wasn’t really allowed to explore my environment fully.
When it comes to my own art, I never really felt like I had a style until fairly recently. If I were to describe my style it would be "evolving". It’s only the past year or so I feel like I've kind of figured it out.
Growing up in Taiwan, pursuing an artistic career was looked down upon, and I was often told by adults to study more practical subjects, or else I'll end up starving on the streets.
I would consider my style to be a fusion of Western & Asian influences, with an antique and vintage feeling to it.
In this age of information and social media where it feels like we're competing with everyone else by posting our work and creations every minute of every day, it's easy to get lost and forget what kind of art you want to do, what your art does, and what kind of artist you want to be.

I am a first-generation Canadian artist working as an illustrator and a designer from my Montreal Studio. I work in a variety of fields using both of streams of expertise to create bright and colorful images for editorials, packaging and publishing, and more.
How do great automatic drawing artists come up with ideas when they are creating? And what are the steps in their creative process that enables them to bring those ideas to life?
